Thread: Difference between 73 and 73.5 911?

  1. #1

    Question Difference between 73 and 73.5 911?

Does anyone know how to tell if a 1973 911 is an 'early' 73 or a 'late' 73 1/2 model? Is there any sort of online resource where you can look up information like this? I'm looking at getting an early 70's 911 and am trying to learn where to get information like this.

    Thanks,

    T

If I recall correctly, the difference between early '73s and '73.5 cars only applies to the 911T. I think the 911E and 911S (and--for that matter--the 2.7 Carrera RS) had mechanical fuel injection throughout the model year.

I agree...if a 1973 911T has an original engine, it's as simple as lifting the lid for a peek. This applies to USA models. Anybody here know about R.O.W.? (Rest of World) I do know that the cars in France ran "yeller" colored headlights...

I agree too. Since he mentioned the difference between 73 and 73.5 specifically I assumed he meant the T

Yep, you guys are dead on! I'm looking at a 73' 911T. Thanks for the help. It's a late model after all.

Another way to tell is to check the build date on the doorjamb sticker. If it's 12/72 or before, it's a '73 MFI car. If it's 1/73 or later it's a '73.5 CIS car. I believe they started the CIS cars after the Christmas factory shutdown.
