The power of a second opinions…

About a month ago my project derailed when I was quoted $15K for the metal repair on my chassis. Well, with a second opinion and some over site on my part things are looking so much better.

I had just assumed that I would need to replace the whole floor and didn't bother with having it grit blasted. Well the current metal guy did some poking and what I thought was rust was just the glue that held the sound dampening into the car. Yes, it had taken a color of rust over the years from condensation and such but it can be scraped away to some pretty fine looking metal. Woo Hoo!!!

Also after cutting out the hole under the sill plate and taking a look into the rocker they are very clean as well. Guess the drain holes did their work.

So to my great excitement the floors and the rockers are not even an issue any more. These are the ones that I was most worried about with doing a Targa. The majority of the work in now just sorting through a previous repair in the suspension pan and latch panel.

Sure glad I didn't let the first guy get into the car. (He did get $120 for spending 2 hours appraising the job).

Ahhhh...the infamous rusted look old glue. When I pulled back the carpeting in my 71 last fall to redo the interior, I was totally horrified. I actually put the carpet back in and went in the house and drank beer until I passed out. The next day I went back out and looked again only to realize it wasn't what I thought it was. Lots of scraping, wire brushing and a liberal coating of POR 15 brought the ol girl back to life nicely.

Same thing happened to me on my 70T. That old rusty looking glue was covering perfect metal underneath.
