Request for photos of Becker radio installations

Does anyone have an original Becker installation in a pre-'74 911? If so, would you post pictures, please? I'm trying to get a feel for how to put an older Europa in my '73. The face plate is nothing like the Blaupunkts that I have seen, so I'm guessing that the installation must look quite different. Thanks.

I'm considering a Euro Becker Europa for my Euro '69S. Would love to see these pics.

The Becker's do mount completely different to the Blaupunkts, the Becker is a DIN mount radio and the Blaupunkt is a twin shaft mount. Just took my car out of winter hibernation and took 2 shots for you, with and without faceplate. As you can see in the pic without a faceplate, the radio is mounted in a DIN size opening (rectangular hole), the radio is held in place by the two clamping bars on either side of the front of the radio. As you tighten the screws in the center of the bars the radio is pulled tight agaiinst the dash because the bars stick out about 1/4" at the top and bottom of the radio. All of the old Becker radios have 2 pieces, you have to mount another unit about 1/2 the size of the radio in a remote location, this is the amplifier section of the radio, mine is mounted behind the wooden floorboard on the passenger side. Sorry bout the quality of the pics.

rvdv? You might consider submitting to this site...I'm not sure if they have a good pic of your radio...

    Tom,
Here are some more pics of an Europa I had, with bracket. It slides in from the front. The rectangular bars slide into the holes on top and bottom, then you tighten the screws to the face to hold tight to the dash structure. Pretty straightforward.

Second pic shows the Blaupunkt I replaced the Becker with. Found out this bracket doesn't work with the Frankfurt.

Here's a Becker that went on ebay today. This is more like what I expected for a Porsche installation. The other Becker photos, including the ones on the nosubstitute.org website, look more like Mercedes installations. Can anyone say whether one is correct for early 911s, or are they both correct? Also, what was the attangement for a stereo radio, since there is only space for one speaker in my '73? I don't want to cut the door panels. I have a Moch 1 in the car, now, but it doesn't seem like a very nice piece of equipment to me. Many thanks.

Tom, my radio is an original Porsche Install, the radio that is on Ebay does not have the original Becker faceplate included, if you look at the original Becker plate closely on my car you will see that it has chrome trim aroud the perimeter and there are small off-white horizontal line running through the plate. As for the stereo sound just hook up one side of the radio to your dash speaker, you won't miss much. the sound is crappy anyway compared to what you get today, I very rarely use the radio but I sure would miss it if it wasn't there.

FWIW, Becker of North America has a repair/parts service. A friend with a '56 Mercedes Gullwing said he had zero problems getting his original Becker radio redone. They may still stock the original Porsche faceplate. Here's a link: http://www.beckerautosound.com/home.html

TomF. you can install the becker both ways, you are right that big faceplate is considered the Benz mounting way,the becker when its finished should be mounted like the blaupunkt is mounted the three hole way also known as the universal mount, you can see this if you are on our website and go to links then go to oldautoradios, hope this helps
