    Question '68 911L/S Brakes

I have a 911L same brakes as a 68 S and I am planning on replacing the lines, pads and rotors, inspecting the calipers, and of course doing a flush. My question is what parts should I go with? Is the OEM rubber lines just fine or should I go with a SS wrapped lines? What type/brand of rotors should I get, I have seen slotted drilled rotors for the front but I also heard they are more prone to cracking? And finally what brand of pads? The car is a weekend driver that is taken for spirited drives at times and I plan to auto-x about 6 times a year. Any links, examples, suppliers, recommendations would be appreciated.

Bob what are you running or what would you like to be running on your car?

I understand that the 67/68 vented rear rotors are no longer available, but 944 rear rotors can be machined down to fit.

I would fit SS braided lines throughout

    Nick,

Does that mean that the front rotors are still available? I knew about the rear issues....

i am running SS lines on rebuilt stock braking system. it was one of the first things i did when i purchased the car so i didn't know too much then...and still don't .
i would pursue nick's idea otherwise swop out your whole front end for later susp set-up and 3.5" braking. i already rebuilt my entire susp...again when i didn't know too much.
actually i didn't want to chase my tail in upgrades...first this then that then more of this...$$$.
btw B D, i really like how your car is coming along.
nick - when you gonna unveil the blue 68S?
eric - good to meet you in monterey FINALLY!

I fitted new front rotors, they are common from the 68S up to the SC!

The 68S went off to its new owner this morning, I was sad to see it go

    Loads of pics here

just looked the the entire 68S resto pages - AWESOME JOB NICK! that is going to be one happy owner. i like the autofarm exhaust. i noticed the facet fuel pump in the engine bay. these units are good - yeah? i may need to replace my orig pump and was leaning towards a facet for my carb'd 2.7.

The Facet pump was already on the car. Its a bit noisy before the motor is started but it sure pumps loads of fuel

What exactly is the process for machining down the 944 rotors, how much and who does this. I don't want to swap in many newer parts, I want a period hot rod and want to keep the price down. Could non-vented rotors fit, I don't think I would go this route. I should go pop a rear wheel and check out what is back there now, who knows?

Soterik the fronts are still available.

Bob I would go with a Pierberg pump, it's the pump PMO recommends and sells. It's self regulated at 3.5 lbs ideal for carbs, I just ran it in to a Morso splitter with a psi gauge. It's much quieter than the faccet, but gives a nice single click when it gets power so you know it's working. You can get it from PMO or Pelican for around $80.

If you change to non vented rotors you will need to take the spacers out of the middle of the calipers. Do a search on this site for "944 rotor" and you will find quite a bit of info on 68 brakes.
