Thread: 72/72 Targa owners help please!!

    72/72 Targa owners help please!!

As my 73 2.4S Targa nears completion on a total resto I would like some close up photos from other Targa owners of the front quarter vent window area as I can't seem to get mine to fit correctly against the roof rubbers and front rubbers. When I shut the windows they are not quite into the slot of Targa roof rubber and they do not appear to be straight either yet I am at the maximum height per the std fittings, I think. It looks like they are not high enough to me but I need a reference so I can chack against front pillar etc.

Please takes pictures with the roof off.

Can someone also take some photos of the front roof rubber attached to the car without the roof in place so I can see how it sits as the new one I have seems to sit too high and is putting a lot of pressure on the roof latches when I close the roof

    Thanks in anticipation

    Goodmorning
Clyde,,I've had the same problem before..
thick and thin rubbers,, thick putting lots of strain on the roof latch's and sitting to high.. its trial and error to get a good seal..

If you replaced any doors with a coupe unit,,, you'll have to oblong the adjustment holes so the vent window will sit higher..

    Regards, Robert..

If you are using a new factory rubber you have to trim the seal to work on the older cars.

    follow this link.

    perhaps this is your problem.

    Good luck.

Yes indeed that may be correct for part of the problem it certainly is hard to close the door on one side as the rubber seems to be intruding out too far.

I will buy the razor blades and start hacking!!!! unless someone out there has a NOS Targa front pillar rubber to sell

    Clyde,

Tell Lisa to keep more veins available for your next obsession...

BTW... Lisa, what's the story with those RSR wheels and the car in the pic on eBay?
I know your little town has over 3 million people but... I reckon the early Porsche racing community is a bit smaller... and you ARE da-gal-in-da-know

    Chuck,

Trust you to be the one to pick a rare beast in the background of the photo! OK...the wheels belong to a mate of mine (lucky sod) and the car in the background to another mate. It's a 1951 Ferrari Barchetta. I'm told they might part with the car along with the wheels in this auction (for the right $$$ of course!) .

My veins have survived so far this morning...he's off to get fuel in the car...probably will take the long route !

    Cheers,

Yes the 85 litre tank is now full again it has been a long time since that has been the case.

In the last 7 days both front and rear windscreens have gone into the car and I have re-attached the stainless roll bar cover, fitted the runner to the bar cover and fitted the internal padding for the roll bar along with the Becker Mexico.

The car is really coming together and I drove it properly today for the first time in 5 years or more. I can't quite remember when I pulled it apart!!!!

The standard clear glass screen was over a $1000A from Porsche so I fitted a green tint aftermarket screen which matches the factory green tint glass perfectly. Really suits the car.

Next job is to refit the front bar rubbers and glue all the bonnet rubbers into place Lisa and Mike permitting, might try that on Friday and then the list of things to do is getting really small.

Well Clyde, can you really believe it? I have a pic of you driving the car that I'll post tomorrow (you know what a s$$t of a day I had - for other reasons). I am only now reflecting on what a really great day this must have been for you...I promise I'll give you a big hug on Friday if we see you! Sometimes it's a bit difficult to stay focussed on what is immediately happening under one's nose...too much stress filled stuff going on today for me to really share this moment with you and I'm really sorry for that .

Now to get this beauty really on the road...how many nights you got free to put those needed miles on her before we let her (and you) loose???

    Cheers and congrats mate!
