DIY install of external oil cooler questions...

for those that have installed an external fender mounted oil cooler (28 brass style) to a car that did not previously have any cooler - how long did it take you? what was the drop in temp post install? any helpful tips? and the real dumb question: what size drill bit with original mounting hardware? thanks all!

    Hi Bob
our experience with the brass coolers is mixed. They work decently on smaller displacement carbureted or mfi motors . As a radiant cooler the cooling is coming just as much from the fore/aft oem brass lines as the cooler itself! Actual temp drops on cars that install a system is about 20-25 degrees on average (how's the commercial go? your actual drop may vary)
Anyway- it takes about 2-4 hours depending on your skill level and availability of parts to adapt a later system to an early chassis.
    best of luck

Hey Bob, I'll be interested to see some replys. I'm in the same situation, but with a Mocal kit. Not sure I have the guts to start drilling into my car... but have to keep that refreshed motor refreshed.

    "As a radiant cooler..."

    - It isn't. It won't. Radiation will not be a significant heat exchange mode for any cooler ever used on a car.
