    "Sport" Steering Wheels

This has probably threaded a million times, but I gotta ask anyway....

In my understanding Porsche did not offer OE "sport" steering wheels on any models from 65 to 73. In the absence of a factory-correct alternative, what are my options if I want a smaller, thicker wheel but don't want to buy a tacky modern one? Is there an aftermarket product that will appear appropriate in my otherwise bone-stock S?

The Momo Prototipo seems to be the wheel of choice. Prototipo

    steering wheels

I faced the same situation so I opted for a 914-6 wheel (that only cost $100 pre-recovering) that I am having "double wrapped" during the recovering for a slightly thicker grip. I will post photos soon. The wheel is 380mm compared to the 400mm of the 911 and is a nice subtle improvement. It has a part number designating it a 914-6 wheel compared to just a 914 wheel which will require minor modifications to the back lip. And now I'll sit back and let the real experts give some input.... George K ......are you out there....

The wheel Daron suggests was used on the '70-72 ST and '73 RS lightweight, so is a factory sport wheel from this time period. The factory also used Momo (Prototipo and the like) and Nardi wheels on some of their 911 factory race cars during this time.

    Nice, but...

Momo's Prototipo looks very period correct. Anyone know where to get a Porsche horn button to fit it rather than using the Momo piece?

These cars are always much more fun to drive with a slightly smaller diameter and thicker gripped steering wheel. I like the Nardi...

    Cheap!

    Jol,

Thanks for the LTB link... Prototipo for $170.00 - least expensive price I've seen by far.

Roblav: we gotta work something out - I gotta get a few laps in the FHayabusa (the left coast/right coast thing complicates the situation, though). Anyway, which Nardi type is it that you prefer?

I'd like to get a unpainted Prototipo or a Nardi. Any connections?
