    Windshield question ... again

    Hi guys,

I am replacing the windshield seal and the trim deco and thought, while at it, I can get rid of my 80's Sigla windshield with the nasty blue tinted top part.

I want a tinted Sigla but, sifting through the old threats, I am still not sure what the best option is. Could anybody please point me to a (simple) source of the real deal?

    Here is what I know:
    (1) Porsche offers Sigla windshields for ~$630, pretty close but with built in atena (i.e. a small line on one of the sides visible)
    (2) Pete McNulty from the 356Club hinted to a Texas/Finland source of tinted Siglas without antena - Currently under investigation

Anything else that I am missing?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Guys,

No help on this? How did any of you who recently restored a car resolve this?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Mike,

I think some of the reluctance to answer is that this issue/problem/solution seems to keep changing all the time.

It used to be you could get a early factory tinted or clear windshield from the dealership for a pretty expensive but fair price…that was over 10 years ago

Then the dealerships made it a VERY special order and the price went way up…

Then the independent glass dealers (i.e. Safelight) were dealing in 'factory' early tinted and clear replacements (with etched logos) made in Mexico for a VERY reasonable price… that was over 5 years ago.

    Today the story keeps changing...
I changed my windshield about 5 months ago... this is what I found

At the time there was NO early factory tinted windshields available, but there was one (that's one in the country) non-tined clear factory windshield for about $675 plus $100 special shipping charge…and no one new the availability of anything else...

So, considering how hard I am on windshields …. I settled for a PPG 'blue banded' early windshield through Safelight for $112 outright and put a outside decal over the stupid logo… The upside is I'm not afraid to be behind those faster cars with bigger tires... The point being that for THAT price, and how hard I drive my car, I could deal with how WRONG the thing is...

Good luck on your quest… and please post your latest results

    Cheers,

Mike...it's an issue I'll be wanting to deal with in the coming year or so. Please do keep us informed.
