    Request for seat advice

This Saturday the driver's seat back came loose in my 1971 911T. Upon inspection, the screw on the side holding the seat to the chrome bracket broke in half (OK, i could lose a few pounds). What is the best approach to fixing? The screw will need to be tapped and removed and a replacement put in -- but what type of shop do I take it to? Do I take it to my mechanics or an auto upholstery shop? I wonder where to get the stock screw? How do I remove the seat from the car? Thanks for any help,
    SCOTT

The removal is the easy part. Sears sells a Craftsman tool set known as "screw outs"...if you have a reversable 3/8" drill, you're home free there. I'd also suggest using some PB Blaster on the screw that has broken before using the screw-outs. The replacement screw may be the problem. There, I'd start calling the upholstery shops who redo seats...just MAYBE they'd have some in stock they'd part with. I've heard that the screws are no longer available from Porsche....

And your seat removes simply by slinding it all the way forward and off the rails.

Good luck... you could call EASY, Parts Heaven or others for the screw as well.

Thank you both for the tips -- it was info I did not know... frankly, i have not stepped inside a Sears in 10 years but I will make a point of it. I already know the replacement screw will not be easy... i have tried 3 different home improvement places and no luck. It is metric i assume and nothing even comes close. Perhaps I need to find a 911 being parted out. Anyway, I have a project for next weekend,
    Thanks

Scott, try one of the above mentioned P car parts houses. EASY (European Auto Salvage Yard) should have what your looking for.

    Good luck,
