space saver spare tyre

Does anyone know from what year Porsche introduced the space saver spare? I thought it was 1973 model year but my car (delivered Jun72, which is still 72 model isn't it?) has one. Of course it have been installed later (after a crash...I hope not).

To the best of my knowledge, this is considered a 1973 model year feature.

Whats the date stamped on the wheel 6 72 or 3 73 etc . Thats how you can tell when the wheel was made at least. I thought the space saver was introduced with the 85 litre plastic tank

Thanks! I shall have a look. I guess it is possible that given this car is late 72 (June), it already had a 73 year feature?

The ' collapsible spare wheel ' is featured on page 72 of my 1971 911S owners manual 4625.20 dated 8/70 for RHD market cars.
It was provided with the 100 litre tank which itself was an option of the day.
The two pics are with the tyre flat and secondly 'being' inflated using a compressed air bottle.
So perhaps we can look to the 1969 or 1970 MY for the introduction of this wheel being an accessory for the 100 L tank.

I would say you are right. The LWB 69-71 100 liter tank was plastic and the same design much like the 72 Euro S and RS tanks but were black in color. I think it is safe to say these plastic tanks all took a space saver tire.
