This tub/chassis does not have Le Mans history - that car crashed and was destroyed. So exactly what parts were stripped and donated to the new tub besides the motor?

IMHO...the motor counts for something in terms of Le Mans. Cars that have been at the Circuit de la Sarthe are a rare breed. At least in my book, it's significant.

This is a nice car but it is not THE SAME car and I am glad that the guy fessed up even if he did a little sales job to the buyers.
Sticking the parts off wrecks and calling them the "real" deal is a slippery slope argument that I don't think can be won (and shouldn't).
IF the factory re-bodys a car that's different and there are cases of that being done. This is just a clone with some "goods" from a wrecked race car on it; no more-no less.

Paper will lie and you can write anything on it be it the truth or not.

Tom,
I agree with you regarding the somewhat misleading race history of the car (using his argument, just having the stick shift knob from an original Le Mans car would qualify it as a historic racecar).
On the other hand try building that car with 906 spec engine and all those other race components for less than $50k. If I didn't already have a nice 67 sunroof coupe with a 2.0S power plant, I would have had to look long and hard at buying this one. It's beautiful, and if it has what the seller says it has, it would be a little rocket ship.

My truck and trailer transported this car to Chicago from McCarthey's shop as is was being finished. I guess you could say that some parts on the car had Lemans history......... I Know this seller took a bath even at 50K.
He also had a 356 carrera project that was in Excellence years ago. Now THAT was a nice car.

These cars are good for baths. The Porsche crowd like any other marque be it Corvette, Ferrari or _______ will always be a superb case study in one-upsmanship (and financial baths). Were it not so, your job wouldn't pay as well and the Andials, Rufs, and "Super-Tuners" of the world would be fewer indeed.
They NEED bathers. They supply the soap that washes away your money into the car. In the end it is their job to make you feel better about your car (financial Waterloo). They are coaches, they are salesmen (Bless them!) and in the end they do their job very well, indeed. I'm happy they are out there and that I know them. I have empathy for a good bath. We all take one from time to time, eh?
