What year is this?

Going through the parts bin, I came across the part shown on the picture.

It's my understanding that it might be an oil temp valve from an early S (mounted near the filter). BTW the lines currently shown are not stock, it came from a VW guy.

I checked my parts manual but can not find it in the 1966 edition.

Can some one tell me the year it was used a/o the exact name a/o preferably part number?

Looks like the thermostat for a front oil cooler to me. They were part of the oil filter console on the 70 & 71 S. I don't know if they were on any earlier years, maybe 69, but not after 71.

Yes - that looks like the thermostat to my 1970S - for the front oil cooler.

Am I correct that it's a:

Oil console/thermostat for a front oil cooler as used on a 69 - 71 S?

That explains why I could not find it in the '66 parts manual ..
