    rivits on factory plate

Can you restoration experts out there tell me if these look like the original rivits on the factory paint plate?

I know the car was repainted once (it was a custom gold color, and a PO changed it to red). You can see the red on top of the plate in places (also there are curved swirl marks at each corner - maybe a buffer or sander hit the plate). That makes me think the plate was not removed before.

Any other thoughts on this plate? ways to make it nicer (restore it) or should I just leave it alone?

    - this is the best image that the forum software will let me post; if you need more detail, I can post it on Pelican and then put a link to it here.

    Thanks!

    Randy,

Stoddard stocks these special rivits for $.05 each...pretty spendy I know, but hey, your cars worth it... Although, I am not sure how these attach as my standard Stanley rivit gun will not work with them...

They look to be original though to answer your ???

    Cheers,

I would avoid removing that door jamb plate (paint code) - the one with those funky rivets - at all costs. Those are not "blind" rivets, which you can pull with your "stanley" rivet gun. Those look like normal rivets which require access to the back of the plate to buck them. Lotsa luck.

I think the painter is going to drill them out. He definitely wants the plate off...

    Bad idea??

Well... you could replace the plate with the proper non-blind rivets by epoxying them in place, if you can find them.

I just ordered the ones above from Stoddards. They are also used on a 356 plate. Randy, since you are painting the car, the doors will be off...with the doors off, you can see the back of the panel and install them properly.
