    Like the Eveready Bunny….

Most know our friend Stephen Childs’ beautiful ’68 Gulf T/R…

Whille at the Auto Book Store (like I am about 3 times a month ) and while looking at some old mags I came across this Dec. '68 Road&Track and low and behold…

Not only did Stephen’s car compete in the ’68 Monty, but kept competing throughout the rest of the season…

The article was about the ’68 Swedish Rally held latter in the year….

    BB2276 keeps go’n on, and on, and…

... don't know bout you, bit I think this is pretty cool...

Sorry to those who don't know Stephen's car...

This is on Mark Waring's World Wide Classic's web site as the decription of the car he brokered to Stephen Childs in '02...

    1968
    Description: 911 2.0
    Drive: LHD
    Colour: Gulf Blue/Orange
    Interior: Black Recaros
    Mileage: 58,000 Kilometers

Comments: 12th Overall in the 1968 Monte Carlo Rally driven by Ake Anderson and Sven Olof Svedburg this car was found in its almost timewarp 1973 condition. Upgraded in 1969 to Group 4 GT specification it now sports a twin plug, factory 906 type, 2.0 engine with titanium rods and produces an impressive 220Bhp. The car is being prepared for future historic races. 4th in Tour Auto 2001 driven by myself and Christopher stewart.

It's the same '68 Monte and Swedish Rally car... and a car I had the privilege of driving for four days 3 years ago at the R-Gruppe event... WOW...

1968 Gulf sponsorship - maybe the first Gulf-sponsored Porsche?

Oh yeah .... hang on, let me do some research .............................................. good book, but it only covers the well-known Gulf cars. No mention of any Gulf 911s.

I had the chance to see that great car and speak with Steve at the Parade. My latest, a 68 911 was parked next to his car at the Historic display. What I did not realize then was my car looks alot like the before picture of Steve's car. No real race history early on kept mine looking pretty much the way it was built. http://www.porsport.com/images/2005_...shey%20001.jpg The car I have was built with Sport Kit, Rally Kit, LSD with airport gears, Roll bar, R seats, side decals, undercoat/sound pad delete ect. AND is tangerine too.

    LOVE that car!

I followed Stephen at Rennsport II across the highway to the S Reg gathering in my rented big ass Expedition. Great view!! I felt a brotherly duty to protect it from all the yahoos out there. Me and my big rig were ready to "take a bullet" if need be - so it could live on!

Not driven too much yet Chuck. I bought the car about 8 weeks ago. It was owned and vintage raced by Susann Miller, the Porsche book writer. Her husband ordered it new. It needs some odds and ends before I can really drive the wheels off which I intend to do! I quickly cleaned it up for display at Hershey.
