    Correct seats and mats?

    Please help, I'm still learning.

In my 1973S, are these seats correct? The seller advised me that they are original, only the original velour fabric has been replaced with this black German leather. I sense they are perhaps newer seats but I'm really not sure.

Floor mats he made no claims on and I have to guess they are not correct. Assuming they are not, what is the best source for correct, quality floor mats for this car - (not interested in coco mats).

    Ed,

No, your seats are incorrect, I've attached a pic of a set of sport seats (not mine) which are correct, and would be a very desireable option for your car. I can't quite tell what seats you have, perhaps a couple more pics?

Regarding mats. Those are aftermarket mats, they are fine, but most period correct mats would be either coco mats, or a set of velour mats which would match the rest of the carpet in your car. Unfortunately, the velour comes out a little different in each dye lot, so you may not end of with a perfect match.

Tony from Tony's Autobahn interiors can do a set of mats for you, and may be able to come up with a set of Sport seats for you as well... 619 230-1065.

    Love that gold!

    regards,
    Eric

If you are looking for originality, besides the seats and mats you may want to get rid of that shift knob and steering wheel too....

I found an original steering wheel in excellent condition and am installing it now. I got a shift knob from Stoddard but sent it back. They told me it was the original but it was nothing more than an $80 piece of plastic with a shift pattern embossed on it. What is the correct shift knob for this car?

To match the color of your car, I would suggest hollowing out a 9 ball. Seriously, the original knob IS made of cheap plastic, a clear plastic top, with the shift pattern displayed under the clear. Made of cheap plastic, but NOT cheap to buy.

Here are pix of the correct shift knob. There is one company that is selling reproductions on Ebay, but I wasn't happy enough with it. I have seen some of these selling (only used) on Ebay or Pelican in the range of $100 - $200 depending on the condition and how many people notice it.

Took me some time to find mine.

Yup - the correct shift knobs for these cars are nothing more than $80 pieces of plastic with a shift pattern embossed on them....

FWIW, I have an 8-ball to go on mine... may stick to the 917-type wood one tho.
