Idiot question - How to apply Weltmeister Decals

This is mondo embarassing, but the decal from the site came with zero instructions, and doesn't seem to fit any of my previous experiences. I can tell you what it is not: A peel off and stick, an immerse in water and it will float off, the new type which adhere by some type of static effect. I tried peeling it off, I also tried soaking in water - did I ruin it? What is the secret instruction? It would be REALLY nice if the secret was included for us idiots.

    Rick,

Some of our decals are more difficult to apply then others...

First try the steps on the web site...
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/WeltmeisterDecal.html

If you're still having trouble then try soaking the decal longer and carefully peel the sticker off the backing and apply it to a wet surface...

If all else fails give me an e-mail at home - cmiller14@socal.rr.com

    Hope this helps,

The 73 decal I got from Robert before the registry started selling them was self adhesive and very easy to fit no water required

    Thanks Chuck.

When I read the instructions: "peel the front cover
off and apply the decal to the wet
glass with the backing still attached...then peel the backing off.

When dry or wet, I could not find a place on front or back to peel from. When I tried peeling it, all I got was separation of the paper backing which then pulled into little flakes when wet. It is now drying out. The instuctions make it sound as if they are a simple peel and stick type of application. This obviously takes finesse.

Make a very mild (and I do mean mild) solution of dish soap. One to Two drops in a bowl of water is sufficient. Soak the decal in it and when it comes off be sure to have a good amount on the glass area as well.
Place the decal and squeegee (sp?) out the bubbles and then let it sit. It will dry completely in about 24 hours. The "R" Gruppe decals stick like nothing I know and are a son-of-a-gun to get off once placed. I've never removed an "S" Registry decal but expect it to be a little easier.

    Good luck,

    Tom

SUCCESS! The water treatment, sans soap, worked. Thanks to Chuck and Tom for the info. Patience and perserverence, and some good info, worked and the decal looks great. It looks just as I remembered when looking at the cars on the show room floor back in 71 and 72. Thanks guys.
