    Fake 2.7RS in Germany

A dealer in Germany is selling a 73 RS 2.7 purported to be chassis # 9113600406. Light yellow- green stripes, the pics look nice. The car was just inspected by one of our friends; the vin number is definitely bogus. Add to that the fact the real 406 sold on e bay in february 05 for 89k and change. That car was verified as the real #406.

Shame on them for doing that. Who is the dealer?

Here is a link to discussion of the real RS 406 when it was on eBay. I posted photos of the production # that the seller sent me. Guess we shouldn't be surprised that a fake pops up given the sharp raise in appreciation of these cars.

With "S" values approx. double that of T's....yep, it happens, counterfeiting...and not only with T's being turned into RS's. It's easier to counterfeit an "S", since the RS cars are now all book documented.

Dave, I'd love to see the follow up on this one. It's important to save someone from being cheated out of serious money.

Based on Dave's post from last year, I would be VERY careful of this one...

It is a number matching documented and Porsche verified car

So what is a "Porsche verified car"? Did the factory personally inspect the car to insure it is genuine? Or is it just a matter of sending the factory a VIN number and the factory sending you back a build sheet for that VIN #?

If I was in Deutchland I would go to the dealer and take a test drive and not return with the car. when the politzi are called we could then sort out the real issue.

Here in lies a problem: With a fake #406 running around, the real #406 will always get the evil eye ! It will be like driving a 427SC cobra-"Nice replica Dude!"
Will the real car's owner have to carry copies of documentation everywhere he (or she) drives the car amongst the cognoscenti ?

Is this nor cal car the real one or the german dealer's fakey that my friend had gone to inspect?
