    GPS Speedometer

Can anyone recommend a GPS based speedometer to verify speed? Need to be usable in several cars, all modified. I don't really need a navigation system or a hot-shot rally setup. Just a dumb speedometer and maybe compass.

Good post Steven - I have been contemplating the same thing. I have no idea how fast I'm actually going in my 69 - the speedo is at least 10 mph off at highway speeds. Plus something just to tell me where the heck I am would be good so I can take it camping!

Any handheld GPS will do what you want. Once you have the %age of speedo error figured out, you really don't need the GPS any longer.

I have a bottom of the line Magellan...a "GPS 300" model. What did I pay? Zilch. Got a weird offer in the mail several years ago. "Test drive a new Caddy, get a free GPS"...My guess? It would sell for around $70 these days, and gives speed read-outs, compass direction, Lattitude, Longitude, way points, etc. No road maps, just the basics...but if all you want is compass direction & speed, I'd think the least expensive GPS you could find would do the job...
