    Need part # for '69E F.I. "funnell"

    I have a friend who is restoring a 1969 911E. Apparently, a backfire melted
    the "funnels" on top of the velocity stacks, under the air-cleaner cover.
    I'm having a hard time being sure which ones to tell him to order. Anybody know if these also fit other years or are they just used for this years E.

    Ram tubes or trumpets.

    Hello: What color are the ones on his injection unit? How many are burnt? I have couple of these around here. I don't think you can buy these any more. Thanks Eric

    The '69 stacks were larger at the top than those from '70 and '71. I don't remember the diameter, but those specs can be found at the pelican site. Do a search using the terms "stack dimensions." It is possible to get cast aluminum replacements for these. They are the same as those used on some Webber carbs (IDA and IDF,I think). I can recommend an inexpensive supplier for the aluminum ones. The trouble is, they don't have dimensions of their products. I made a guess, and fortunately got what I needed. My stacks are '69 S spec. The E spec should be smaller.

    Your friend is lucky that the stacks were only melted. They can actually catch fire. This is why I got aluminum ones instead of searching for '70 S plastic stacks, which would have been much easier due to their smaller size ( I enlarged my '70E stacks to '69S as a part of my 2.5 project). It seemed that aluminum stacks in the '70 S size were not available. Let me know if I can help.

    Doesn't really sound like a backfire; sounds like the cold start fueling caught fire.

    Stack confusion.

    Hello: It semms like there is some confusion here. The 69 stacks are different than the 70-71 stacks. All of these stacks are made from metal. The later 72-73 stacks are plastic. The stacks for the various engine types have different bore sizes. The plastic stacks and the 70-71 stacks have the same bottom stud mounting spacing. The 69 E and S are different at the bottom stud mounting. Lastly they did make 70 S stacks and they are made of metal. I have the casting numbers if you need them. Plastic 2.4 S and 2.7 RS stack number is 911.110.312.1R, that one I know they are sitting on my desk. Thanks Eric

    Thanks for all the info, my friend says he seems to have been able to order them from the local dealer, we'll see what he gets. I'd be surprised if they come through as the correct parts but we'll see.
    Eric, I think he needs most if not all of the funnels. He was very lucky the fire didn't do more damage. He just got the car and managed to get it running after 15 years of sitting. I have not seen it yet, hope to have a look at it this weekend. I'm sure it will be for sale soon if anyone is interested.

    I was not sufficiently clear. I was talking about '69-'71 systems that used cast magnesium injection stacks with plastic velocity stacks, the latter fitting within the air cleaner assembly. The replacements I referred to were cast aluminum velocity stacks, which can be fitted to the cast magnesiun injection stacks. The '72-'72 plastic systems integrated these two, formerly separate, components.

    Hello: Scott I thought about that later, you are correct you can use the aluminum "funnels" from the Weber 40 IDA carbs that they use on 4 cylinder engines. What you have to watch out for is that the stacks match the funnels. I have some that are different sizes that are clear type plastic and gray as well as black. The clear ones are 40mm on the bottom where as the black and gray are 46mm. You can also buy some steel plated ones as well and also some that have a nice radius at the bell which even gives more power. Good luck finding the original pieces. Thanks Eric
