So Cal.Track day near the Beach....

Well, I for one really don't get all that excited to leave my home near the sea to travel to the scorching hot desert tracks in the summer....call me a lite weight ... So when the opportunity to spend an informal day turning laps with several other early 911 track bud's near the beach....I jump at the chance.

This last Sunday 8/14 PCA San Diego Rgion held another of their oh-so fun DE's at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego....Sure it's cones in a huge parking lot...but it's only a couple miles from the beach and you can feel the sea breeze...and it's August to boot....

    Hope you enjoy the pic's...

That's A LOT of cones. Who sets them up? What's the length of the track? Is there passing? Looks like fun.

The PCA-SDR Autocross team is responsible for putting on the local DE's at Qualcomm, while there is a separate Time Trial team that handles operations for the SDR big track Time Trials. There is a core of volunteers who handle the equipment, logistics of designing and setting up the track, hiring corner workers, tech inspection, etc. to put these events on as a training opportunity for drivers in the club who want to step up from autox to TT'ing.

I'm not sure about the course length, I never looked at my odometer, but I would imagine about a mile or a little more, with passing allowed on the two straightaways with a point-by only. 4 run groups with 20-25 minute sessions all day. It was definitely fun and great band for the buck-- $60 if you pre-registered and also ran the $40 autox on Sat.

See the PCA-SDR site for more info on all their programs.
Here's a pic of my car leading the pack in the Red group.
