E-Brake/oil light won't turn off (sort of)

The yellow light for my E-brake and oil won't turn off. I know it is the E-brake portion, becasue if I slam down the brake really hard, it will sometimes turn off. In light of my oil temp problems, I know some of you may think they may be related, but I am positive it is whatever sender turns it off from the E-brake.

    So, where is this switch/sender?
    Thanks.

    How's your tranny ground strap????

I had a similar problem on my SC and that solved the problem. Shoudl try it, its cheap and also might save your clutch cable from rotting via electrolisis (don't ask me how I know........).

The switch is a wiper-contact style just rear of the pivot point.

It is held by a flat blade screw on the passenger side.

It can come loose or creep over time as it is clamped against a painted surface.

With the boot off and a stubby screw driver the adjustment can be checked.

The contact just slides in a groove.

So that light that comes on with the e-brake is also an oil pressure warning light?
I always wondered about that. Is there a separate sender for the light, or does it somehow use the same sender the gauge does?

I can't speak for the eralier models but for my 1973, my red e-brake/brake cylinder failure light started flashing one day. after I pull the wire off of the master cylinder switch, the problem went away. I figure my switch went bad as my brakes continue to function properly. Probably should replace.

I guess I'll complicate the issue regarding the flashing red emergency brake warning light. On my 73 Targa the light flashs whenever the emergency brake is on and quits flashing when the brake handle is returned to the off position.

I've never seen the low brake fluid light come on but according to the 2001 Mitchell diagrams it is the same light. I don't think I'd want to by-pass or disable this warning.

Why mine flashs and yours does not is a mystery to me...maybe someelse knows??

    Ed:

I will shed some light (maybe) on the topic. I have a 73 Targa. Yes, the emergency light and Oil light are the same light. But I guess that Porsche figured that you wouldn't need both warnings at the same time. I mean, the oil light would go on if you were driving and had oil problems (but is it pressure or level??) and I would guess that your emergency brake wouldn't be on at the same time.

My light flashes when the emergency brake is on. I have never seen it come on as an oil warning, and as I indicated, I don't know if that is an oil pressure or an oil level warning.

The tach light on my car wasn't working. So I pulled the tach and discovered that there was no ground strap from the tachometer. So I fashioned one, and plugged it from the tachometer to the Oil Gauge. Now the tach light works just fine, but the Oil/Emergency light doesn't come on at all!!!!! It still clicks when the EBrake is on, but no light.

I guess that I need to pull the tach and oil gauge again, and run the ground from the tach to somewhere else.

It's my understanding that the oil light is advising low oil pressure and will come on if the pressure gets to 7# (or goes below 7# not sure which). Wish I could locate an owners manual.

But now I'm confused again...the the emergency brake warning light also indicate low brake fluid as well as low motor oil pressure???

My light won't stop flashing (73E), and I figured it was the switch in the e-brake handle.

    Can it be something else?
