    1968 911S Targa Vin 11850055 eng. 4080254

    Hi Guys

Does anyone know anything about this car??? The car belongs to an elderly man here in Europe. He belives that the Body is galvanized... Does anyone know if that was an option if the car have had a new Body... The Gauge to the left of the light knob is that an option for example to a Gas heater??? The trim on the panels are the thin ones shouldn´t be the tho ones that cover the hole panel?? Red carpet?? I thought that the only available was Dark(grey)

What do you think of the car? I am thinking about making him an offer...

    Cool

Gauge to the left of the headlight knob is an ambient temperature gauge which was an option. Door panels were unique for 1968 only and had only one pocket in the middle which I believe snapped down - kind of like a leather hand bag. Never saw red carpets on an early 911 and don't believe it was an option. As for a factory galvanized body, there was no such thing offered by Porsshe in 1968. The car generally looks nice though.
Last thing: the front spoiler is not original to the car either.

    68 S Targa

Where is the soft rear window????

All good points, Rick's brings an important one. Was the soft window replaced to ward off future leaks. Did this car have a leak, I would look very closly for rust and repair. Red carpet is SASSY. Could be a new trend.

Another thing that was probably not available in 1968 was the mobile phone antenna on the Targa bar...

The soft window was replaced for two reasons. One, they are complex, with the release levers inside the drivers compartment, to make zipping the widow easier, and they leak a bit.
Two: the hard glass offered more rigidity to the chassis.

    It is for sale....

Thank you for your comments.. I have had a closer look at it today.... The chassis IS Galvanized...??? the Car was Imported to Europe mid 90´s... "I think"no history on the car and the owner dont know much either...

No galvanizing in 1968, unless there are replacement panels.

These might be too obvious, but....the steering wheel is incorrect, as is the rear bumper trim (should be thicker as in the front), and the side trim which in a 68 covered the whole panel.

Slightly off topic question, but what color is that? Is it original? That is the EXACT color of my car ('69S); I always thought it was a non stock respray...
