These engines are becoming VERY expensive to build. The right building blocks (eg. 7R case, MFI pump, etc.), when combined with the right expert mechanic, may yield a build price of 15-20K USD for a fresh engine. You can extrapolate back from there to guage the value of your powerplant.
A "real" engine from a "true" RS may be worth even more than $20K, provided it is in strong running condition. However, I will defer to our '73 Carrera RS owners for their opinions.

Is it a 911/83 type motor with a 663XXXX serial #? If so and it was complete (correct MFI, etc.) and not in need of a rebuild it would certainly be worth much more than $20K IMHO. If you could mate it with the chassis it came out of that would bring a handsome premium for sure.

Autofarm advertise a freshly rebuilt 2.7 RS "spec" motor for £8750 ($16200). I know that 74/75 911/83 motors have sold for more than that here in the UK. I would value a 73 911/83 at around $20K in useable cndition

Thanks guys,i will try to post serial N° ASAP.

That would be cool. If the number is a true RS engine nukmber, the guys here can probably give the VIN of the car it originally was installed in.

Paul,
Actually you can do the same search yourself using the web. If you do a search for the engine serial # you will get to a site that will list all the matching '73 RS chassis #s with engine, trans #'s and original color.
For instance a search for engine # "6630481" (# on my RS) will give you this. Look at the first hit in the search.
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=663...-tab-web-t&b=1
Then you can see it matches with chassis # 9113600451. If you click on that link it will take you to www.classicscars.com page that lists chassis # 0011 to 0500.

Hi, I have a 911/83 engine that has "lost" it's car. It's rather fun to do the research and ponder at what time and by what reasons the engine and car whent separat ways. Many years ago I hade a -73 S that was imported to Sweden from Italy. Finding the engine stronger than supposed I checked the serial number, OK PPI was not done in the way is should. To my surprice it was a real -73 RS engine, trembling with exitement I went under the car and looked at the gearbox and there it was, a oil pump! The looking in the lid I found that the spare tire was a blue Fuchs. After that I have tried to trace the car, that was sold in Italy but no trace of it. It was probably totaled and the S owner put in the things that was working. Given the fact that the seller did not know about the engine there could have been some foul play...
My remaining engine is from a -73 RS M471, also without car. The car is on sale without maching numbers engine, but with 911/83 engine. We are most probably going to rebuild the engine, all parts are there. The car was in CA and later whent back to Europe where it is for sale now.
On values? Might make 20 KUSD, if freshly rebuild with all needed parts new.
