    Steering column lock

Does anybody know what years these cars received a locking steering column? My '69S steering column doesn't lock, which strikes me as odd. I searched to no avail...

    Kenik,

    Dr. Brett Johnson's book states:
"The ignition switch for the 1965 through 1968 US and right hand drive had no column lock... ROW received switch with column lock"
..."Ignition switches also changed for 1969. There are two types, one with lock and one without. No indicationis provided regarding which cars were fitted with the non-locking model. 1970 were first to use ignition keys with plastic covered ends."

    My US delivered 1969 911E has no lock...it is original..built date 7/69.....
looks like another one of those..what ever was in the parts bin phase in changes....Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info! Considering my car was the 30th 'S' made in '69 and the fact that the 1st ten were apparently crash tested, it seems like my car is an ideal candidate for not having a locking column.

My left-hand drive '65 has a steering column lock. That might be a rare Brett Johnson mistake: all the other '65s I've seen have the same brass or bronze bezel around the key, and I think all the '65s had locking steering columns. I think it was discontinued in '66.

Admittedly, my car was delivered in Germany, but it showed up in California a few weeks later.

    Well...

My 66 car has a steering lock, but it is a very early 66 car. My old 68 911 and 68 912 both had steering lock. It was an option by then. None of my 67 cars had it.

My '67 RHD doesn't have a steering lock built in.
