Bruce Anderson finally "caves" on pricing!

    Newest Excellence, November 2005!

Page 24 Tech notes, Bruce is asked about pricing on a "low" mileage (92,000), 73T Sporto in original paint Aubergine...he is asked what it's worth and replies this car could be worth $35,000 to $50,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He bases this mainly on the "owners" description of the car, original paint, beyond excellent etc.

He says a truly low mileage original car can bring double of what his "excellent" prices have been.

So, he finally puts numbers out there.....and it has to be on a 73T sporto. So, if that's $35 to $50K....how much is a beyond excellent S?

As Howard mentioned in a different thread...we have been our own worst enemies in the recent price upswing. I suspect that Bruce may now go out write an article on his position?

    regards,
    Eric

I'm with Tom on this one...well, frankly, I haven't had a different opinion than Tom's on values. I've been told of high values "S" models, "just like yours, Paul"...then when I see them? Well, to be kind...they are different, or even worse, a counterfeit. Sweet Old Bruce, coming around...what was the old sitcom theme song? "It's about time"?

I am surprised by people's obsession with one person's (any person) valuation of an object. As if any single person or publication could establish the market price on anything. That said, I guess it's nice to see him coming around to the obvious.

Maybe he'll also change his mantra: "Buy the newest model you can afford." Nah, that's just crazy talk.

maybe the insurance companies stopped paying him

most likely, there are now enough recent (more expensive) sales in his database to swamp out the effects of earlier sales and indicate a higher price

Bruce is indeed a nice guy and why would he be biased in favor of low prices?

I would say that we need to be less hypocritical and report all of the sales by board members. Did Bill Noon's recent sale or the low mileage gem make it to Bruces' records?

Reading his valuation reports in Excellence it seems like the only data he
uses is what readers are emailing him about the car they just bought or sold.
    Is this the case ?
I doubt Bill Noon's sale ever made it to Bruce's file. This board is probably
one of , if not the best source of info for the market value of these cars.
Never relied on Excellence for values anyway...interesting reading though

    Values

As Tom said above, lack of reports.
I have seen Bruce a couple times over the past years, and he has said the same thing. 90% of the early sales go unreported. If the majority of his reports were 10- 15 K, then he would leave off the odd ball report of a $35-50 K sale. (although he DID report the silver 67S I sold a couple of years ago for $45K). If EVERYONE who sold a car at the higher price reported it, the higher values would have been exposed long ago. So shame on us! I am just as guilty! How does that saying go? Don't shoot the messenger.......

Gee guys, do you think capital gains taxes might be a factor here? IRS doesn't care about short or long term on collectable capital gains. Let's see, back in 1974, I bought my car for 9,300...today it would sell for XXXXX, so the capital gains would be...
