    Varsovie

Anybody know the significance of the "Varsovie" decals on the Monte Carlo ST. I always thought it was a sponser, but it appears it may be the French word for Warsaw (Poland) or something????

That is very interesting. So next question is 'why is it on the ST'?

Didn't the Monte Rally have various cities as possible start points?

Perhaps this lettering indicates the origin city of the entry?

I think it is the reason of this sticker, but .

Is it a picture of the Rally of Monte Carlo 1970 or Coupe des Alpes 1970 ?

It is the French for Warsaw.. and a would have been the starting location for the car..

IIRC they did a huge number of road miles miles to get to the 'start' of the rallies, all timed etc.. accumlating a number of penalites or not before getting to the twisty bits in the Alps.

There were bonuses for starting further away...hence if you had faith in your car you started from further away...or some deal like that.

Well, what I've learned is in the early days there would be several different cities around Europe where the participants would start from. Not sure if this was by lottery or if the teams picked the city they started from. From these cities, they would do timed runs on normal roads and all converge in France to start the actual stages. So the Varsovie decal indicates that the car started the race from Warsaw, Poland! There is no connection between the team or drivers of this Porsche and Warsaw - they just started the race there.
