    Repainting Dash Face

I'm in the process of repainting my car, and I want the dash repainted. What should I go with? My painter says about half of the dashes he paints, he uses Wurth satin black. He claims it's moderatly durable and suggest adding some urethane with a flatten agent in it. He says it's more durable but comes out a bit more shiney than the original look. The other half of his customers go with the urethane.

    Opinions? Comments? Thanks.

Tyson, if it were me, I'd go for replicating the stock look as much as possible. But you're not me. Is the choice here between the stock look and a non-stock look with greater durability, or can you get a stock look AND enjoy greater durability? All that said, I guess the choice is yours, depending on your ideas for your car...

Well, I'd like to get stock look and greater durability, but it sounds like it's not quite possible. That's why I'm asking for input. Thanks.

i have painted my dash. first i used a flat black which i didn't like at all. it's actually more diffcult to wipe clean because it's not as slick. plus, it's just not a very rich black. a few months later i repainted it with a satin black and i like it much better. black is much richer. i then painted the gauge bezels with a semi-gloss to stand out against the satin black. all other interior metal bits and pieces have been painted with the same satin black to match.

Have your cake and eat it too. Go with the Wurth and put on several coats.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

Take a sample of the Wurth to a powder coater and have them replicate the color and finish. It will look right and never chip or scratch. Best of both worlds. This is what I am going to do over the winter when I tear my dash apart. I'll post pics when I get to it.

    Kenikh,

I think you would have to take your whole car to the powder coater ... the dash is part of the unibody welded in at the factory...
