Car history - help from you guys in the USA?

    Hi

I have just been looking through some documents I got with my 1967 Porsche 911.

I have the fully stamped service book that came with the car and it shows my '67 was bought from:

    Ellwood Motor Cars Inc
    Daytona Beach
    Fla.

Ellwood appear to have had the car registered in their name on the 19th July 1967, until 9th Sept 1967 when it was bought by Wesley A. Fink of Daytona Beach ( I have is full address).

Mr Fink owned the car until 1996 when it was sold as a 'one owner car' with 68000 miles on the clock by RPM autosales Inc, 7116 Rosa Avenue, Orlando. I believe ownership then transfered to Mr Robert Trimble of Winter Park. Not long later the '67 came to England.

Anyway, a question for those of you over in the States, do you know if Ellwood motors is still trading? How can I find out if the original owner, Mr Fink, is still alive. I would love to try & piece together some more of the cars history Is there any other way of tracking down the cars history?

    Thanks

Sweet Jesus I love Black and Tan! If my car had Tan interior I'd be thinking heavily about not taking it back to the original Silver. Nice ride there James.

I'd start by doing Google searches for phone numbers under his name or have someone in the Florida area go to a library and research phone books. Another possible is looking for local newspapers for the Orlando area. I know it's morbid but, I'd start with microfiche of obituaries.

With the info you seem to have to go on, a private investigation firm could probably come up with the info you seek. Of course, they'd charge for the service...(edit) The original owner may still be alive...he seems to be listed here: http://www.zabasearch.com/

It does look like he might still be about. Is that site up to date?

    James,
Nice looking car. I am wondering though - those rear tail light assemblies look to be from a 69-73? Is that correct? Also, the windshield wipers seem to be parking on the driver side instead of the correct passenger side for a 67? Otherwise the car looks pretty nice.
    Did you try googling Fink?

the tail lights are SWB ones, if you look at later taillights the 'reversing' light area is closer to the bumperettes, eg:

I think usually on SWB you can see the 'reflector' area more clearly than on mine. I beleive the current lenses were fitted in the late 90's.

The wipers I had noticed myself. Can't really answer the question. Late '67 model & fitted with the incoming wiper mech ? Changed at a later date ?

    Jame,
Looks like you are right about the taillights. Had to go back and look at my own. Did you switch out the US for the ZEuropean yourself or was that done by the previous owner?
More importantly how does she drive? Those 4.5 steel wheels look skinny!!! Can't imagine one would feel too secure sloshing thru the normally wet English countryside riding on a set of those, but they are correct for the year/model!

The "skinny tire" guys have an edge when things get really wet. I remember a decades ago P-car convoy...we "old" cars with skinny wheels & tires (most running the Michelin XWX) were doing fine during a deluge, while the lone guy in a then new '76 Turbo was begging on the CB for us to slow down because he was aquaplaning like crazy with his wide wheels and state of the art then Pirelli P-7's...
