HI what year did the rear bumper over-riders gain the rubber strip?
My '67 has rear over-riders with the rubber strip, but the front over-riders are plain chrome. I beleive my car should have the plain chrome rears also ?

Hi James,
Yes your 67 should have the all chrome over-riders. I think the 67S had the rubber strip on the over-riders but your crash bar is I think a 72 option.
Also sent you a PM.
Cheers,
Michael

Interesting that the crash bar is a '72 option.
I have photos of my car in '97 with all chrome over-riders. I am assuming between '97 and the early 2000's when I 1st saw the car, it must have had a bit of rear end damage and the over riders swapped for the ones on the car now.
Rear crash bar was available as early 1968, I've got a 68 Christophorus showing the assembly line, and there's a crash bar on one of the cars.

Eric

Those bumperette rubber strips were available as an option. They are listed as such in my Sep 1965 Porsche 911 Options booklet. All of my 1966 cars never came with them, whereas all of my 1967 cars did.

Eric, Did you see James car on the show me your ride thread?Originally Posted by Soterik
Now my question for Eric. . . With or without the rubber strips? I've only seen Rennman's Polizia with the single large crash bar with no rubber strips. The only other early crash bars I have seen are either single or double small diameter bar that mounts between the bumperettes not the larger bar mounted to the top outer face of the bumperettes like James's car.
Also Eric, In the pics of your new 72S I see the right bumperettes but, can't see the holes for the crash bar. Are they there or just reflection keeping them hidden?

Here is my 71E with rear "crash bar & rubber bumper covers". They were included with the car when new.

The holes are there, but there are chrome plugs in the bumperettes. The 68 pic from Christophorus shows the rubber strips. I've got the original window sticker from my car, so I know the car was optioned from the factory this way. I assume that a previous owner took it off for personal reasons, same for the horn grill lights.Originally Posted by 70SATMan
If you can find a pic of SWBSAM's 67S, you will see that he also has the rear push bar like mine. I've seen other cars with the single bar as well.
I heard if you have a single bar in rear that is the Porsche factory placement part at time of mfg. but if you have the 2 bar setup that is an AMCO after market part sold and or installed by the dealership.
anyone else heard this, think it might be in Dr. Johnson's 911 book but been a while since I read it.
