    POC @ Streets of Willow, 11/5 & 11/6

The final two Short Track Series events of 2005.

A great chance to put your driving skills to the test. Forget about all those orange cones and the long wait between runs at your last Auto-X. Or spend your first exciting day on the track with an outstanding instructor.

And a challenge to the members of this board...

I'd like to see ONE new Early S member show up for either day.

    Any takers?

At first I thought 'oh good...Sunday is taken care of....but then it occured to me that Chuck is no "newbie" when it comes to gettin' out on the track!!

So I guess your challenge for both days is still open.

Might be joining you on Sat. instead of Sun.

The Registry's meeting date will probably be changed...

I see they're are running the conventional track layout (without the bowl) on Sat. ...

It's always nice to get comparative times with the configuration that you've run before...

Then there is always the plus of having Sun to clean the car...

    ... see'ya out there

Time to prep the old blue car for a one day time trial event at the 'Short Track' at Willow Springs...

This is the general stuff I check and do before every event... And before I have teched at one of the local POC shop/stations.

After checking the oil level when warm the day before, and the brake fluid, I get the car up on all 4 corners. Check the front wheel bearing play, adjust as needed, then take the street tire/pretty wheel set off...

Then I go about cleaning and checking all four corners in turn...

Checking the brake pads, the tightness of bolts (sway bar mounting bolts) looking for anything unusual, like cracks at any of the suspension mounting points... signs of anything rubbing on anything ...

Shoot a little pure silicone gel in some of the tiny spaces between the rubber bushings and mounts with a hypodermic needle (big tip)

    Generally smoke everything over...

Next, I look over my DOT-R racing tires carefully , check for any cuts or forigen objects in the rubber... check if there's any debris, rubber (marbles) on the inside of the wheels ... then mount'm on...

The last thing I do at home is apply blue 'low tac' masking tape on most of the leading and trailing surfaces... And apply my racing numbers on the rear quarters with a bright contrasting colored tape.

At the track I'll tape up the headlights, mount the rented transponder, and put on the bra...

This whole procedure takes a little more then 2 hours (when you don't find anything amiss) And it keeps you well in tune with your car... especially if you drive it hard...

I would suggest anyone who tracks there car, at any level... or just drives the canyons hard should get into a procedure like this periodically... just for piece of mind....

    Cheers,

... And those who are local, we'd love to see'ya out at the track this weekend...
