    911S 1968 Rocker trim

    Hi all,

I have seen pictures of a number of 68 911S fitted with the narrow rocker trim strip with narrow insert and also some with wide metal 68 only trim which is full rocker width similar to the later LWB rocker trims.

Both are still available but which should be fitted to a swb euro 68 911S.

    Thanks

    Thanks Nick,

Thats what I thought, I just needed someone to confirm it before taking the plunge, the 68 911S's that I have seen with the narrow trim must have been early 68/late 67.

The style of rocker trim on a '68 may be dependant upon date of manufacture, or (?). I have seen both styles on S models built in '68. My '68 S is fullly original chassis #003 and was fitted with narrow rocker trim. I therefore presume either style to be correct for the model year, but not necessarily for your individual car. Big help, eh

Like a lot of Porsche mystery from the early days, maybe it was what ever Heinz had closes to his station that day? At least they used matching parts (unlike Detroit)

It looks quite different with the narrow trims, more elegant IMO. Greg's car (it used to me mine) is a very late 68 model so I think should have the wide trims, but as Jim say either would be correct.

I noticed the '68S for sale at European Collectibles, which is chassis #278, has the wide trim also.

Also when looking at the Red Book, on page 14 is a B&W photo of a 911L model with the wide trim.

Morgan's book, on page 12, shows a very original '68 911L model SW Targa with narrow trim.

My 68S soft window Targa is VIN # 016. Probably built the same day, or day after #003. I have the narrow side moulding trim. Also, the low back, no headrest sport seat.

My 68L has the same trim as my 67S...early build date though. A 68 normal or T would have the narrow trim as on a 66 or earlier. The wide full Aluminum trim from a later L or S is like what is shown on Nicks car. So, since the early wide 67S type trim is NLA, use the later wide stuff...

    Cheers,
