Early S reg. #681
I don't have a 4 inch tall stack of uninterrupted service receipts and registration slips since 1973, so I consider the car "true mileage unknown". As far as I am concerned, any early car with mileage that can't be substantiated with bonafide documentation is TMU.
Hope this helps!

I did the PPI on this car for Rob and dropped it off at his place in LA for him. My take on the car was excellent. As many of you know I have looked at many early 911 and RS cars over the years and have made a reputation for myself as being way too picky. Of all of the RS cars I have looked at this is the one I would have bought for myself. Very original down to the 65mm 6 and 7 inch wheels that are alway missing, with 185/70 and 215/60 tires on the car, this car was not hot rodded. One light respray that was done without spraying out the jams in the doors or lids. EVERY SINGLE PANEL WAS ORIGINAL AND SERIES ONE SPEC. The licence plate panel had been replaced with a steel version at some point, I speculate that the mounting holes would have been exposed with the Jap plates in place so they replaced it for aesthetic reasons. The interior was nice and original unmolested, sport seats with cord inserts, factory LSD with the proper /11 stamped gearbox, even the proper plastic vapor barrier was still in place behind the panels. Attention to detail on the maintenence was done to assure all the right fasteners remained in place and everything was put back as it was originally. Best described the car gave me that really good feeling of honesty that I rarely ever see, both in inspecting the car and driving it. Iam sad to see Rob is selling the car and I have told him he will not find a better car on the market at any price. Sure there are a small number of Cantwell quality restored cars around, but this car was unmolested and very original and should be preserved as is.

Schmidt has spoken........ And I have to agree. I also inspected the car.
Jeff - what does the 65mm in the above statement refer to ?Very original down to the 65mm 6 and 7 inch wheels that are alway missing..

Andy,
Isn't that the diameter of the center hole for those wheels with the 3 prong caps?

I don't understand this, particularly in this crowd. If the car has been repainted and the alum. license panel replaced with a steel version, how "original" is the car? Not trying to be a dick here, but shouldn't "very original" be reserved for cars like Don's (Rennman's) SWB beige racecar? Love that patina. As for the holes in the license panel, that fact bears out the car's history. Different holes for different country's license plates is very cool.Sure there are a small number of Cantwell quality restored cars around, but this car was unmolested and very original and should be preserved as is.
The point is that a lot of these cars have been restored to minimum or lower standards. This car has had only a good exterior respray. Everything was removed and reinstalled correctly as original from the factory. Not a hack job.
The rear panel is such a simple bolt on/off panel, that that doesn't even count. The RS cars in particular are 32 years old. The first years of their life, they were just a car, no need to preserve it as it might be worth 150-200 K some day. Body repairs, especially european, were not done to exacting standards. As they came over from Europe, they were fluffed up to look great to the American buyer. The "fluffers" were money hounds, not so much people looking to correctly restore a nice piece. The Europeans DROVE these cars, they don't believe in gararge queens like we do. The average European feels that we over restore cars. To a point, I agree with them.
To sum it up, the point was that compared to most of the RS's out there, this one has not been molested. Is it 100% original....no, but about as close as your going to get. There are some very low mile cars out there that claim to be original, 100% factory paint, that simply are not.
I will be proud of my RS when it is done. It will be full of imperfections from a physical stance, as it was a FIA rally car, not a gararge queen.
Funny, I am in the process of a little freshen up work on the Bus driver's RS, an all original car except for one paint. I also just replaced the licence panel because of too many holes not so carefully drilled. The car has lived in 3 countries now. I did save a NOS alloy one for it.
For what it is worth the tan 67 was TOO original for me. It was traded for the orange 68 Sports Purposes car. The 67 is being restored at Klub Sport to it's former glory. Too big a project for me at this point in time.
