    Mechanic/Shop Recommendations: LA/Hollywood/Valley

After getting a few hundred miles on my recently acquired early 911 its seeming like time to have a pro give it a look over and also take care of a few minor issues.

I'm in the Hollywood area and I'd like to ideally find someone close by to take the car into and use regularly. I've been recommended TRE and Aurel's. Its been said TRE are more race oriented and Aurel's seems like the Porsche mechanic to the stars at least from the outside (which I'm not sure I want to deal with).

I don't mind paying a fair price for good work but I also don't want to be taken for a ride. So who do you guys in my neighborhood use or recommend and what are their strengths/weaknesses?

    Thanks for the advice.
    Cheers,

    Steve

Here is the best kept secret in early 911 mechanics, other shops send jobs to him and they take the credit, and he has been around for a long time. He's very, very fair and honest. He's a straight shooter and you'll get the most bang for your buck. He is not expensive, very, very reasonable. If you want to hotrod your car or keep it totally stock, or a little of both, this is the guy. He has been my mechanic for 15 years and is the only one who works on my original 1972 911S. If you live anywhere from Bakersfield to San Diego its worth it to drive or trailer your car to North Hollywood to see Tony at TLG phone#(818)982-7610 address 13222 Raymer St North Hollywood CA, 91607.His shop is open Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm and on Saturday by appointment. Tony also works on later model Porsches and is one of the few mechanics that actually drives a Porsche to work everyday and even on his days off.

TRE and TLG are both good ways to go, IMO. (I've heard some mildly iffy stuff about Aurel & Don's, in spite of the Seinfeld lore.)

TRE gets my vote but I have never heard bad things about Tony.

TLG sounds like my kind of guy. He's 10 mins away too so I'll pop down and see him but I think I'll drop in on TRE too.

    Thanks for the info.

TLG is the only shop I use.

Well, considering Tony's my dad and that I work there it's probably fitting.
