    ST Question

Hey guys, a little Friday minutia...

Last night was look'n through my ST references and it seems that almost all the pics I have of '72 ST's in '72 have Black plastic horn grills…

So… question is; Exactly WHEN were the plastic horn grills available… And, even though I can't find reference to it, were they a light weight racing option before the F series production run….

OR… did I just drink too much red wine on my vacation…

    Cheers,

Look again, if you look at photos of the cars new at the factory, no horn grills at all, if you are looking at photos once the cars are delivered then who nows the time frame, they could but horn grills from a Corvair on it. Post delivery photos are not good reference material.

red herring - you can see that these are surely the stock (later) plastic grills.

If you can determine when the pics were taken then you have an estimate...

    On re-looking over my references:

The pics of definite plastic grills on ST's can not be precisely dated...

AND... on third look at some of the pics I have, I realize I am looking at blacked out spaces where the grills were removed as Jeff suggests...

Man, I hate when he's right.......

The good news is ... I'm not as nuts as he is ....

    Cheers Jeff.... thanks

    Total guess:

What are the chances that the car was built at a later time on an older chassis? Didnt they normally use whatever parts they had laying around?

    Horn Grilles

    Chuck,
Plastic horn grilles were not a lightweight add on . They went to plastic in both chrome and black for ease of production and durability (the didn't pit so easily). At least that is what we were told when they were introduced. The only metal grills I remember on the later cars were the ones with the driving lights in them. And those may have been old stock as they were not popular at least in the west.
