H1 Headlights - Left vs. Right?

I am looking at a set of H1 headlights and the reflectors look assymeterical. Is one designed for the left and one for the right side of the car? Or can they be swapped?

If they are left and right ones, how do you tell which is which? They have the same p/n's on them - in the little Bosch yellow tag.

The same headlamps are used for both the left & right hand sides but if they have previously been fitted to a car then the reflectors will be adjusted differently depending on which side of the car they were installed.

RHD vs LHD cars used different versions of the lamp (with different part numbers).

Maybe you can tell me what exactly I really have?

Here are pics of the #1 H1 and the #2, followed by a pic of the lower reflector shape. You can see why I asked - it seems odd that the assymetry should be the same for both left and right headlights.

    Thanks!

One other item - the digits at the top are the same, but note the differences in the digits on the two lights for the block of digits at left - the bottom line differs. No idea what that means - maybe they are date codes for different production runs or something.

Randy, darned if I know why, but the asymetrical "slant" going downward is the same in both my lights, the downhill slant pointing towards the driver's side of the car. Once aimed, they work!

Thanks, Paul - Good to know. BTW - I saw in another post that you have apparently got a digital camera now and have mastered it...

Nope, not me...all I can do is lift pics that others have sent me. I'm still in the digitally ignorant class.

Hey, go easy on Paul. The owner of quite possibly the worlds most original 72 S cannot be burdened by spending $129 on a point and shoot digital to document said 72 S!

Ah - saw you posted something. It's not hard & costs nothing to take shots (unlike film).

"go easy" - not meant as a criticism - BTW, thought we were going to send him a digital camera so he could document that special car for everybody??

Now, back to that headlight question! ...

I'm actually thinking about donating a digital camera to Paul, just so we can get photos of what we want, when we want. We go thru digital cameras like Kleenex at my office .... I'm sure I've got one laying in a shoebox somewhere ....
