Thread: What steering wheel/hub is this?

    What steering wheel/hub is this?

Can anyone please identify this wheel and hub combo? Is it a Mille Miglia 'Targa'? The listing identifies it as a "Carerra Speedmark". I have been looking for one of those smooth style hubs and mainly bought it for the hub. I currently have a silver prototipo and I am hoping to switch hubs like Richard's early wheel hub combo (can't find a pic right now).

Bob, this looks like the Racemark wheel that was on my car when I bought it. Hard to see, but on the right spoke there should be a stamp below the holes that says Raid/Racemark. Mine has the same horn button too.

The leather was coming unsewn so I replaced it with a Momo Monte Carlo. I damaged the Racemark hub when I removed it and would really like to get another, repair the wheel and put it all back on. The bolt pattern is different from the Momo hub, if anyone knows where to get one of these hubs let me know.

Thanks Tom. I just bought the pictured package on ebay for around $60. I t was listed as 1968 Steering Wheel. I let you know if I don't keep it.

If my fading memory works, Racemark had a similar wheel endorsed by Mark Donahue. It was a big deal back then for the aftermarket steering wheel people to have a "name" driver endorse their products. Hell, I suckered for that marketing. I can recall owning a set of Jackie Stewart endorsed driving gloves...string backed, finger tips missing, so one could more easily pick one's nose while driving around the track.

    Bob,
I'm not sure but based on your comments I think what you are looking for is an early Momo hub. I don't believe you can get a new one anymore but they are around...

See picture below... and let me know if it's what you're look for. If so, I'll check around.

I received the steering wheel and hub over the weekend. With a little TLC it cleaned up rather nicely. I like the fatter grip and the looks over my silver prototipo. However what I like most is the positioning of the wheel due to the non-momo hub. From what I recall the positioning is closer to stock feel with the wheel closer to the turn signal switches and more inbetween your legs.
Also, as you guys pointed out is looks like a Racemark but has "Carrera Speedmark" engraved in the wheel. Anyway not bad considering it was $60 for wheel, hub and horn button.

    Good scoop Bob!

Tom, the Racemark/Raid/Nardi/Personal wheels use a 75mm bolt circle. The Momo (and Abarth ) is a 70mm bolt circle. I have been able to find (or fabricate) adapters to fit either way. I'll look up the source.

The hubs are readily availlable for $60 or $70, but they now have the rubber accordian crush zone and don't look at all period.

I have a bunch of stuff in my secret stash, so if it's a matter of life or death I might be approachable to part with something, you know, for a brother.
