Do I have Aluminum or Magnesium Tranny?

I am rebuilding the tranny in my 69S. I am about to order gaskets from Pelican. The gasket sets for 69 come for either aluminum or magnesium cases. How do I know which I have?

    The number is 901/13.

901/13 should be a mag case. It shows this gearboz was used on the 68T and 69T sportomatics.

So you are saying this is not an S tranny? When I bought this car it was advertised as a "numbers matching" car. Oh my God. I have been screwed.

    Don,

If you don't mind me asking, what are you doing with this car? From the posts here, I thought you were rebuilding it. But from the number of parts for sale over on Pelican it looks like you might be parting it out.

Even if you have sold off the MFI, does separating the original engine from the car makes sense? Is the car that far gone?

    Don,
Sorry for the heart attack. I just double checked and realized that I made a mistake. I was looking at the wrong column which listed engine case numbers. The gearbox number 901/13 shows that the gearbox would be fromn a 69 911S.
    A 901/13 engine case would indicate a 911T sporto
My deepest apologies for my error....

    Don..

My 1969 911E came with the 901/13 and it is a mag case.
If you polish the mag case it does look shiney like AL.
