    Restoration Progress Report

On the dash chalked in by the guy who built my car back in 66 is the serial #.
Went by to check the on progress and pass on another check towards the restoration. Ray, my restorer, thought this was way cool. By the way the steering whell is a shop wheel as are the tires and rims.

    Bill,
I agree it's a fun discovery. About two years ago I replaced the original dash pad on my '67S. When I pulled off the dash pad I found the Vin# with "S" at the end scribbled in yellow greasepencil underneath. This was done on the assembly line so they would know what options to add to the car. Nice to think it's survived all these years. In case you didn't know it your Vin # is also stamped into several other areas of your car. On the inside of both doors (about the middle...probably the last three digits), on the inside of the dash in the area above the ash tray under the dash covering and on the trunk lid...on the right upper side of the bar that separates the grille opening. Attached is a picture of mine through the windshield. It's a little hard to tell because of the flash but a close look will show the cross mark on the "7" on my Vin # as commonly written by Europeans to differentiate "7" from "1".

Must be the thing to do... Here are a couple of photos of my Polo Red 67S #306318S (only eleven cars later), currently undergoing a complete restoration.
