Why cant good cars never go through a full listing on ebay????

I thought this Aubergine 73'S would be a good opportunity to know what good 2.4 S's are bringing lately on ebay, but I guess not anymore. Say this car gets listed again, most likely prices aren't going to be as high as if it were to run through a full auction the first time. An other words, relisting an item most the time doesn't bring as much as the first time listed, so we will never know how much was the first time because the listing ended early but we do know that it would be more than the second time it was relisted. It is kind of complicated to explain, but I hope most of you all know what I mean.

So jdevil, I am curious to know how much you sold the car for.

For $40, eBay is simply a great place to run an advertisement and get some exposure. Often, there is no intention by the seller of actually following thru on the auction. So if you see a car you like, contact the seller and make a deal off eBay. Don't wait until the end hoping to get a last minute bid in because the car will most likely be gone or you'll be outbid by someone who can't come up with the funds anyway.

I would bet car did sell. It was up to 42K in less than a day. Curt you are correct if you see something you really want find a way to buy it, if you snooze you lose.

I would actually think that the car did sell and it probably fetched $52k or even more.

Joe has nice cars and has been selling a few.

I bought his Ivory White 69 RGruppe 911 that was on Ebay in September. We didn't complete the transaction within Ebay. I did pay more than the bid listed on Ebay.

Since I wanted to guarantee purchasing the car I contacted Joe directly and made him an offer to end the auction early. It worked for both of us and I got the car. I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this when they see the right car.

Personally if I was a seller and received a price in line with what I wanted before the auction ended I'd probably take it. A bird in the hand...
    Cheers,

    Steve

I don't have first-hand knowledge, but I would be very surprised if this car did not sell close to the asking price of $52,500. I used to own the car and it is a very nice example of an original car - just one respray in the original color.

It does seem expensive at this price, given that it doesn't have sport seats, doesn't have an oil cooler, and hasn't had any engine work done. But on the other hand, I think good S's are on their way to $100K in the not-too-distant future.

I'm wishing the snow would go away here in Central Oregon so I could exercise mine a little.

The owner informs me that he decided to keep the car. Great decision!

In Malibu, at last year's Hangover Rally, I saw a '73 S coupe the owner had turned down a $120K offer for. Signal Orange, less than 40K miles, and not restored. It looked like he had zapped it there with a time machine. so the top end of the market is pretty well past $100K for truly extraordinary early S cars.
