    Through the grill fog lights

I am beginning to collect parts for the restoration of my 73 911. I would like to add the through the grill fogs but am not sure how to identify the correct ones for my car. I have a part number for them from the manual but am not sure which are the correct ones in the real world and how to identify them. What parts are needed to complete the installation? Any good sources for them (besides eBay)?
    Thanks,

    Steve

    Steve....

I just went through this with my '73. You can install through-the-grille fog lights or driving lights - I installed driving lights. You will need:

    (1) A pair of lights
These are not super expensive. I just bought a nice pair of driving lights that had been taken off a '73 S and paid $179.00 for them.

    (2) Set of grilles with cut-outs
The chrome ones are very expensive to buy, and to replate. I think that solid ones are in the neighborhod of $750 a pair. And then there is plating. I recently found a set that I sent to Queen City Plating in Seattle and they are charging me $450 each!

The good news about grilles is that I'm told the '73 cars had chrome ones if they were installed by the factory and black plastic ones if they were installed later by the dealer. So it's correct to use the black plastic ones unless they were listed as original equipment on your Certificate of Authenticity. And it's easy and inexpensive to fashion a plastic pair using chrome ones as templates.

    (3) Set of mounting brackets
These can easily be fabricated. Or there are new fabricated ones available on eBay for $99.

    (4) Switch
I don't know how hard these are to find and I need another one.

    (5) Wiring & Relay
You should have wiring in your harness already. And if you want to use a relay (which is not absolutely necessary) they are cheap and easy to obtain. There has been an extensive discussion about wiring in this forum recently.

In my opinion these are a great enhancement to early 911's. Good luck with your project.

Exactly, Mike. The factory used the same harness regardless of whether factory driving/fog lights were installed. The wiring for the lights should be tucked up behind the bumper.

You will need to buy the harness from the switch to the fuse box,,, the harness comes complete with the end for the standard relay..

    Driving Light Install

Robert, since you're here...with the driving lights you don't need a switch, they're actuated by the high beam switch, correct? Also, is the wiring for driving lights (as opposed to fogs) part of the standard from factory harness, and therefore tucked under bumper?

Lastly, I've got the relay and relay base/harness for installation for the driving lights - can anyone recite the connections?

    Thanks, and Merry Christmas

Sorry, couldn't help it. Too damn early and the triple espresso hasn't kicked in yet. There is a link to a scan of the wiring diagram that I think Sherwood did. Can't find my link though. All I can remember off the top is a white/yellow wire. Lot o help aint I. All I can think of is this next two weeks off.

Wrong,, you should follow the factory install, you still need the switch , harness and relay,,, Its up to you which circuit you wish to plug into (high-lowbeam) ..
Get a wiring diagram,,, and if you need the harness #,, let me know,,, Its only around $50.
