Thread: Another Color Dilemna!! Olive=Yuck!!

    Question Another Color Dilemna!! Olive=Yuck!!

Most of you are probably tired of this question but here goes: I have a 73.5T that was originally painted 414 Olive that I am planning on restoring. I debated doing anything significant to it for quite a while and have only driven it the past 5 years. This was my first Porsche and it has been such a great car that I feel obligated in a way to make it right. (I actually purchased it on my wife's birthday. Yes, I tried the "I bought it for you honey" line but that didn't go over too well, especially since I didn't get home until 11:00pm after having several beers with the previous owner. I still think it was her best birthday ever, but we are still debating that one!)
So here is the problem: I am one of those everything should be original types (with some exceptions). I want to repaint it in the Olive but am not sure I can live with it. Is this color as bad as Sepia or what? I have only seen one car in this color and am wondering what the perception of it is. Any input?

Can anyone tell me the color of this car? It is close to the Olive but appears to possibly be a gold variation. Not sure.

    Thanks,

    Steve,
    FWIW,
I thought about buying a really clean 73T targa about 4 years that was olive. I figured I would overlook the color because the price was right. When I checked out the car, I realized that olive is a very cool color and there are not many of them in this color. Long story short, I lowballed the guy and missed out on a great car - or so I thought. A couple years later I was talking to guy who had also checked out the same car. He said that he was interested in buying it too but found out after it had been inspected that it had been in a major accident.
So things worked out for the best...

The pic you posted seemed a little too brown from my memory. I thought that there was a touch more grenn in there (almost like the color inside of an avocado after it has been open for a few hours).
I vote avocado - with alot of clear coat to make it look nice and glossy...

    Thumbs up Olive is IT

Steve the car you posted is Gold Metalic...another awesome early color. Olive, IMHO, is a great color and looks fantastic against the red, black and white "other" 911s around; less in your face then the viper green and signal colors, but just as cool...go for it!

    Cheers,

Olive is a PERFECT color for an early car.....plus it's the original.

Leave it alone or buy the car you want.

I once knew someone who owned an Olive Targa. He was a, ummm, large person. Unfortunately, he liked to wear red. When he got into his Targa it looked like a huge pimento stuffed olive.

Cool color for a Coupe though.

Olive is sweet! Period color make a restored car look so honest, plus a proper color change is a ton of work.
