    Brake Pads

    Happy New Year Gang,

Hope you are all enjoying 2006 so far. I need some brake pad advice. I am changing out the S calipers on the front of my 73 E and replacing them with SC fronts. (I plan to box and save the aluminum S calipers) My question is what pads do you reccommend. I drive the car quite hard on the streets and do plan some track work this year (no wheel to wheel stuff, just DE events to learn the limits of the car better) My mecanic is suggesting the Pagid orange, but the more I look in to these the more I am hearing that the squeel will drive me nuts. I've heard the Porterfield R4S is a great street light track pad, and also have heard the Techstars are good although create brake dust. Any thoughts from any of you?????? Appreciate the input.

    Chris:

The first thing I'd tell you is that you'll need a brake cooling kit for the DE events you decide to participate in. This helps prevent the fluid from boiling and premature pad failure.

Pagid Oranges are fine track pads that do not squeak very much in these small, OEM calipers. I'd recommend coating the backing plates with an anti-seize to help prevent noise and you'll be good to go,...

Chris, I have Pagid orange on my '91 C2 that I drive daily. The sqeaking is pretty minimal. However, the performance improvement over the stock ones on the track is significant, and worth a bit of squeaking in my opinion.

    Pagid Orange

    Hi Chris,

I started doing more track days last year and was using Ferodo street pads prior to the middle of the summer. I was getting alot of shuddering at the end of the straight away's and major brake fade by the end of the day.

I installed an AJUSA brake cooling kit and Pagid Orange brake pads eliminating most of the problem and dramatically decreased my braking distance.

Try your street pads for a session then switch to your track pads.

Thanks to all for responding. I'm going forward with the pagid orange and will apply the goop on the back of the pads to reduce squeeling. I already have a brake cooling kit installed, and just today replaced the worn ducting.

Thanks for all your input. Happy New Year.
