    67S rear brake rotors

It has been discussed here many times, but my search skills are limited. 944 rotors will work with minor machining. Is it series 1 944, or series 2 944 that has the rotors that will work?

    Rick-

As I remember the old threads, it is the "series 1" 944, '86 and earlier, that has the right rotor size for the '67-68S rears. The machining just involved shaving the diameter down an 1/8" or so.

    Rick-

I don't think they were my threads, but I followed them closely as I am going to need new rear rotors at some point for my SWB cars. I think the oldest thread on this was lost on this forum in the hacking attack that took place awhile back. However, searches still turned up these threads:

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ead.php?t=6580

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ead.php?t=7389

and a pointer to the PP forum "Ultimate SWB brake thread"-
    http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...hreadid=225135

It appears from Bob Fleming's post there that beside shaving the diameter to 285mm, the two retaining screw holes need to be repositioned on the 944 rotors to match those on the early 911S rotor. The hardest part of this according to Bob was the countersinking to make the screwheads flush.

Thanks for that link Tom. This reminided me of a project for this winter. "disfunctn" on the PP site has added Carrera rotors and calipers to his SWB car. This was all done by switching the ebrake assembly from a later car and a bracket/spacer for the wider spaced 3" caliper for the rear. Sounds like a great alternative! He and I talked last year about making a few more of these brackets for us...I have just contacted him again as his sailboat building should be finished by now.

There was also a recent posting on Pelican of how a guy bought BMW vented rotors and calipers.
