Thread: Elephant Bushings

    Steve,

I'm just about to dive into the whole suspension thing myself. Steve at Rennsport is very helpful. And Elephant Racing has a great page on thier site to help you figure out what you may all want in a package.

    Good luck.

Those are highly recommended (front only) to ensure that you can adjust any potential binding that can occurr in these older chassis,...

What about the Low-Friction Control Arm Mounts Elephant offer as well?
That's the proper name for them. That's the same item Zeke was refering too.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

I have the poly bronze bushings on my front torsion bars (front and rear a-arms and also on the rear torsion bars / spring plates. The work was done by Musante Motorsports here in CT and included a full alignment, lower to RS ride height, new tie rods and ball joints. Also converted the trailing arm bushings as well.

My car tracks like it never has at all speeds. Much less sensitive to cross winds. Feedback is more crisp and the ride is a little more firm but not much different then before. Balance. Just a night and day difference.

Installation wise on the 69S I have, there was some machining Chris did on the front arms to make sure that the bearing and the a-arm had a nice tight (but not binding) fit. I think that the DIY therefore should have access to a good machine shop so the nice tolerances inside the bearing itself aren't lost on the interface with the suspension components or are loose. I'd highly recommend Chris' work if your are in the NE part of the US. My experience is the details make all the difference especially in a system like a suspension where it is only so good at the weakest link (which is now the driver).

    Aircool (Steve),

I am in the process of doing the same as you this winter on my '68. I just sourced uprated torsion bars (21/26) and 18mm swaybars, and have been talking with Steve Weiner about the ERP bushings. As all above have stated, these seem to be the way to go for both a track or a road car...and not even that expensive at about $500 for front and rear set-up.

Have fun and keep us informed on the process ( I will do the same).

    Cheers,
    Michael
