    911 1965 prototype for 906 and R????

Does anybody has more info on this car?

    http://www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.p...on=46&id=37567

    quote from the text:
This unique and highly collectible Porsche prototype was used by the factory to develop both the 906 and 911R. The car was built in 1965 as a GT Prototype test bed and development car for the famous 906 racing engine and was then further developed to compete for the Porsche works in the World Championship GT series.
    Never heard of it before....

He offer's no Documented factory proof. I hope he can back up the story.
In contrast, Rick Cabell's 66' prototype was used for development and has a protype chassis # and R body panels.

    Question

"The car comes with a transcript from AAP Racing stating the engine, no. 90110110201 is the correct 906 type, and also we have an extract from the Porsche book 'Dass grosse Buch der Porsche Typen' in which the car is listed with this information."

What a coincidence, I have the same engine. What are the odds?! The other half of the aluminum case is 901.101.101.02. One of their Expert Elite should have picked up on that.

It could be that the car is the real thing, but I agree that the paperwork is critical to the story.

Robert, Rick's car is amazing...and documented!

I was impressed that they listed the casing part number... I was expecting the fan housing number instead. Now thats rare!!!

I think that the casting number on the 906 engine is 901.101.102.10

May be they made an error in their listiting?

Yeah, with all the resources of Coys, you'd think they would get the research right. Or, does the seller just provide a sales blerb and it gets published in their listings?

Hmm.... I'm just a bit sceptical. A suddenly unearthed prototype of prototype....
and no, in my experience, auction houses very rarely do any in-depth research and DO get facts wrong.

I went to the Bonhams auction at the Goodwood Revival last year, having been told that there was a 2.7 RS rally car in the cataloge. It turned out to be a replica based on a 72 car but was described as a Carerra RS! There was also a Ford Escort Twin Cam, guess what? A replica. Beware!
