    1965 911, what color green?

Well I'm doing a 65, finallly! Now the question is what color? My wife wants green and that sounds good, but which green. Looking thru the color codes there are quite a few. Solid colors, not metallic would be best. Any input on the following?
    6406 Irish green
    62165 Golden green
    R6001 Signal green
    62163 Bush,leaf green
    R6016 Turkey green
    62162 Velvet green
    62164 Sea green

I'd really like a dark green, the darker the better. Anyone have any experience with these colors or know what they look like?

Just out of curiosity, what was it originally? I love Bush Green.

One of my favorite combinations for the early cars is Irish Green with tan leather. Irish green might not have the "pizazz" of some colors, but it will work beautifully with the lines of a '65

Personally, I would probably keep any car its original color. If I had to change, I would go slate gray with red leather.

    Tom,

Definately one of the rare green colors like Sea or Leaf Green. Since the very early 911s didn't come in the Signal colors I would stay away from the really bright green colors.

Has anyone ever seen the color Golden Green? It sounds interesting.

    Tom,

What color was it originally? As I'm sure you agree, people who buy '65's don't do it because of the wide tires and huge horsepower, they do it because of originality. Now, if it was green originally my guess is 6406 Irish Green (that's what my '66 was originally, and what I'm going back to when I restore the body)-- which is actually more of an emerald green, less of a British Racing Green. The modern Glasurit formula is darker than the original-- see this thread on Pelican for the correct formulation.

And Good Luck! Who's doing the work for you?

Tom, I would stay with the original color too.

BTW, I've seen that 2.0L Sportomatic T in Sea Green several times. It is often at the shop I frequent. It looks great in all light - very creamy and neutral. Gorgeous - too bad it's on the slowest 911 Porsche ever made. , though I suppose the color does fit the car.

I've been told that the Irish Green used on the 356's and very early 911's (6406 213) is a little lighter than that used in 1971 (1510/1515 213). My 71S is ready for paint (Irish Green) and I'm very concerned about getting the shade correct. We are using Sikkens. Does anyone have the formula that gives the correct result? My guess is that the formula out of the book needs to be tweeked just a touch.

    Thanks, John

Ahhh, but which way to "tweek" a bit? Another factor entering in is that today's paints use very different materials than the paints of old, now banned by the EPA or somebody (?)

On a 65' Sea Green would be great. There was a Coupe posted in Sea Green on the show your ride thread but it looks to be a little worn so not a good example like the Targa above.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.
