The 911E Registry Tour de Colorado July 14-16,2006

Join us for the inaugural 911E Registry gathering in rustic Durango, Colorado.
911's are meant to be driven and the highlight of this event will be a day-long
tour through some of the most scenic and breathtaking roads in southwestern
Colorado. It will also be a chance to meet some fellow Porsche enthusiasts
who share your passion for early 911's.
This event is being organized by the the 911E Registry, but all early 911's
are welcome. If you love to drive your Porsche , you shouldn't miss
    the Tour de Colorado !

Saturday July 15 we will head north on the Million Dollar Highway from Durango to Ouray. We will traverse over 3 passes and reach altitudes of 11,000 feet before we drop into Ouray, which the locals call "little Switzerland"
Then we'll move on to Ridgway, past Ralph Lauren's 1000+ acre ranch, over
the Dallas Divide to the ski town of Telluride for lunch. After lunch we'll leave
Telluride and drive over the 10,000 foot Lizard Head Pass on our way back to Durango. In all this 231 mile loop includes 4 mountain passes and incredible mountain views, with hundreds of S-turns, hairpin turns, and switchbacks!
Have you ever wanted to drive the Targa Florio? Well, this is as close as most of us will ever get!

If you want to make a vacation out of this trip, Durango features world class
fly fishing, cycling, hiking, kayaking and river rafting. The famous Durango to Silverton narrow guage steam train runs daily to the scenic mining town of
Silverton. Mesa Verde National Park is less than 1 hour away.
Durango's downtown features several restored Victorian-style buildings housing
over 20 art galleries and nearly 60 restaurants.
Durango has something for everyone !

This is a beautiful area. I had a geology intership with the Forest Service 3 years back in Norwood. I drove over to Telluride and Ouray often. The road from Telluride to Norwood is fantastic.

    Another view...

Great pictures & just a small sampling of the roads we will drive in our
    early 911's this July.

Here is a shot I took last fall. The north end of Ironton by the lake (oppostite
Carl's 1st photo) , looking south towards Red Mountain Pass.

    911e

I was down in Tucson, AZ last weekend & had the pleasure of visiting
911E / earlyS registry member Tom McMahon. Tom recently purchased a mint condition low mileage (47,000) 1973 911E.
The car in a word is stunning !
Tom was kind enough to let me drive his "new" 911E, it is perfect & drives like a new car. Look for Tom's 73 911E & many others like it this July 14-16 in Durango, CO at the 911E Registry Tour de Colorado

    3 weeks to go...

Drove up to CoalBank Pass Saturday evening elevation 10,640 ft to check out
the twisties & fresh pavement courtesy of CDOT. Coalbank is only 28 miles
north of town, and 1 of 5 mountain passes on the 231 mile loop.

So far we have early cars driving out from CA, AZ, TX...who else wants to
    join the fun?
