    65 911 wood dash

Anyone have any good pics of a 65 wood dash. Mine is, ahem, not so nice so I'm going to try to either restore it or probably make a new one. Problem is I don't know exactly what wood to use or the proper color to stain it.
I have seen some with a somewhat reddish hue which I am not too fond of. If possible I'd like to go blonde or medium. Of course stock would be best. Guess thats why I'm asking. Any help?

    Tom,

See below. I agree with you that there is a great deal of variation in color. If you are restoring an original the usual deal is to re-veneer the dash in a color and grain close to the original. It's not a solid block of teak that can be profiled like the deck of a boat, in fact, if you look around the edges of your radio hole, you can see the plywood backing, and the actual veneer, which is about 1/8" thick.

Good luck! Let me know if you find a good resource for veneering, this is a few items down my list.

    tom,
that wooden dash looks like mahogany.
it is a red wood and will always darken with time.
if you want blonde, teak is a good choice.

Those lights are an oversteer gauge. When they point in the direction the car is traveling it is time to add some opposite lock.

But seriously Jens, what do they tell you?

Shifter console on this car is not correct. The shifter knob should be black plastic, not the aftermarket "barrel" shaped wood knob on there, the shaft should be chrome (not black), and the shifter boot should be rubber, not vinyl.
I am guessing that those lights are some kind of early warning lights before Porsche added to the combo gauge faces.
Anyone know for sure? The interior wood looks nice though...

Also, what is the lever in the top of the tunnel in front of the shifter?

    Wink

I just popped the photo up as a representation of the factory wood finish (faux teak?). I'm pretty sure the indicator lights are added after the factory and are likely an early version of a tire pressure warning system ( ). Nicely placed.

Gruen,,, I dont see anything wrong with the shifter boot... It should be leather on very early cars.
