Thread: 71E vs 72T?

    71E vs 72T?

2.2E MFI vs 2.4T MFI? Similair condition, miles, records, equipment, guages (S stuff), etc... The E costs more. What to do? Experts expound please!

My 2 cents: 71E will have better performance and a counter ballanced crank. The 72 has the cool and unique oil fill. Everyone is looking for a 72 or 73. Sounds like a personal preference. Colors? Please post some pics.

I'm no expert, but here are a few facts to ponder...

Rarity- advantage E: There were only about 2,000 E's built in '71 compared to nearly 5,000 T's built in '72 (for the US market).

    Power - advantage E: The 2.2 E was rated @ 155 hp, while the 2.4 T was rated @ 140 hp.

Weight - advantage E: about 70 lbs. lighter than the T.

The '71 should have the dog-leg shift pattern, the '72 should have the street H pattern shift, while the '72 has the one-year only external oil fill door.

If they're both nice examples, why not buy them both?
    Cheers!

    Displacement - Advantage 'T'

That said, the 2.2 is arguably the most exhilirating motor Porsche ever built in a street car. The 'E' motor is top notch; the '71 gets my vote.

I would call it a toss up, the T will feel like it has more pull down low the E up high. The 2.2 were one of the most durable early 911 motors. Some people like the 915' s more than 901's but if you are leaving displacement alone either tranny will work fine.
    Good Luck,

Frank pretty much hit all the finer points.
Its like this, if it was an E or an S, you'd take the S, right ?!,
So why take the T over an E? 72 oil tank & the feel of a bit more pull
    down low is not enough.

My vote is on the E, 2.2 & 901....of course Iam biased

The 2.2E really is wonderful but I don't qualify as an expert. Yet.

    Me too.

Give the most consideration to the car in the best condition. That goes a very long way toward the best choice.

I agree, buy the nicer of the two. If it's a tie though, I'd take the E.

    A driver for every seat.

I think you need to drive them both and see which one rocks your boat.

Someone stated that everyone is looking for a 72 or 73......that may be true for the S and maybe the E but it comes down to price when you only have a T.

I don't like the extra gas door so I do not think it is Cool. I would live with it if I found a S ........... LOL

Anyway I am no expert but I also vote for the earlier E.

    Cheers
