Thread: Huf Key Blanks

    Question Huf Key Blanks

Well first and foremost, with the new PayPal payment option, I'm now a bona fide member. Secondly, I have some Huf key blanks, and was wondering if someone here could help me identify which models they are for. One should be for a 67S locking hood pull, the other, possibly for a 56' 356. If you could compare to yours and let me know which is which, that would be great. As you can see, one has a hex opening, and one has a round opening. I believe the round one was for the 67S.

    Thanks,

    Rick

You may wish to contact Tony Euganeo @ (610) 461-0519. Tony is a bona-fide full service locksmith, with a huge personal data base on Porsche keys and locks. He can reproduce keys, re-key a lock cylinder, and repair ignition switches. Advertises in the 356 Registry and is usually present at the Hershey "All Porsche" swap meet.

I don't know what the top one is, but the bottom one is a VW Beetle key blank. It fits 54-59 Beetles, and 56-66 Karmann Ghias. It is a SG blank.

Although HUF is the manufacturer of the original locks, those keys are not genuine Porsche (or VW) keys. They are OEM key blanks.

Thanks for the info, I was hoping someone would simply look at their locking hood release to see if it matched one of my keys. I ordered these keys from Stoddard about 20 years ago, and at the time had a 56' 356 and a 67S Targa. So I was sure they had either one of those applications. I realize they wouldn't have the lock code stamped on them, but surely if you wanted replacement keys for your car you would go through a Porsche dealership, not the key manufacture...

I know on the locking glove box key it said DOM. So are you saying that the original locking hood release wouldn't say Huf, but Porsche?

Just wanted to see if someone could compare to their keys.

    Thanks,

    Rick

The original keys would have the Porsche logo, name, crest, etc. on them, as well as HUF, if they were the manufacturer. With no mention of Porsche, it is an OEM key.

The key I identified as a Beetle key above may also have been used on Porsches. Key manufacturers in Germany supplied many car companies, just like Bosch, Hella et.al. did. I still have the glove box key from my 84 944, and it is the same blank as was used on Beetles from 61 to 66, except that it has a Porsche crest on it, not a VW logo. Both made by the same manufacturer, UBE in this case.
